Ararat Bike Park

Ararat's first purpose built jumps facility for BMX bikes has been completed.  Conceived nearly two years ago the track offers various difficulty levels from beginners to advance.

The Park is nestled amongst bushland in Ararat's northern perimeter, alongside the Cemetery Creek Walking Track which allows easy access for families.

The Ararat Bike Park has been a joint project funded by the Victorian State Government and the Ararat Rural City Council.

The Park was designed and constructed by Simon French and the Dirt Art Design Team, a specialty construction team from Tasmania who have experience in building similar facilities Australia wide.  The construction of the Park has been assisted by Ararat and Langi Kal Kal Regional Prisons as well as the Ararat Landcare branch.  Many thanks should go to both groups.

Officially opened in April 2011 the Park is now used on a daily basis and its success lies in the contribution made by members of the Ararat Bike Park Advisory Group (ABPAG).  ABPAG is a small group of interested parents and young people who attended meetings, workshops , planning days and working bees for the two years of planning and pre-construction work it took to develop the Park.  Many thanks to them.

The are a set of rules for users of the Park.  Following the rules improves the experience for all users.  No alcohol, pets or poor behaviours are permitted.  Signage located at the Park outlines the expected behaviour of users.

Group bookings are encouraged, so if you are considering hosting a "youth style" event at the Park, contact the Municipal Recreation Officer on (03) 5355 0200. Please note, in order to host an event at the Park you will need full Public Liability Insurance and be able to meet the risk requirements of Council.

Alexandra Oval Reserve

The Alexandra Oval surface received a much needed irrigation system upgrade during 2011.  The previous system was nearly 25 years old and had become very inefficient to use.  Prior to the new installation the old system was operating at around 34% efficiency which was well below accepted national standards.

The new system delivers water and nutrients more accurately, resulting in lower operating costs and less water wastage.  The system was installed in between football and cricket seasons to eliminate down time for users of the Oval.

It is expected that the system will remain in place for approximately 25 years.
