Ararat Tracks and Trails - walk it, jog it, ride it!

The Ararat Rural City has a large selection of tracks and trails which cater to all needs. Walking paths and trails with different surface types are located at a number of locations around the municipality.

The Ararat Rural City Councils Inspection team conducts regular inspections of walking tracks and trails throughout the year.

Cemetery Creek Walking Track

Cemetery Creek Walking Track is one of the largest tracks in Ararat. The track is readily accessible from a number of points along its course and travels in an east west direction across the northern aspect of the city. The track is signposted which highlights significant environmental values of the area.

Walking trails and paths are also located in the following townships:

  • Willaura
  • Moyston
  • Pomonal
  • Elmhurts

Ararat also has many trails available within national parks or state forests. These are managed by Parks Victoria.

The Great Dividing Trail

The Great Dividing Trail extends through Ararat and into the Ararat Regional Park. It covers approximately 14 kilometres incorporating urban roads, footpaths and gravel tracks. Signposted for the whole distance the Great Dividing Trail is easily accessed from the train station in Ararat. Train and Bus services connect daily to Melbourne and Ballarat.
